Top Five GOP Mistakes
We are enjoying one of the most awkward times in the election cycle for Republicans. Primary Season! And like Elmer Fudd during "wabbit season", candidates are tripping over their tongues.
In today's information age it is impossible to make a mistake and have it go unnoticed. No longer can a candidate make a statement intended only for his base without it being heard by independent voters. For some reason, all candidates, not just Republicans fail to understand that every word can be captured or recorded. If you have something on your mind that will not be received well by the majority of the public maybe you just shouldn't say it. Because they are in the spotlight lets focus on our Republican friends. Here are the Top 5 Republican candidate mistakes for the 2012 campaign.
Signing Promise Contracts from Fringe Groups
Allow me to speak directly to the candidates, not sure if any of you folks have heard of the Internet. Well it's this thing where people can go to access information like promise contracts from fringe groups. If you are going to sign a pledge not to raise taxes you better read it to make sure it does not include a clause reaffirming segragation. But then again, you don't read legislation that comes to your desk so why would you read a pledge.
Discounting Protest Groups
Early in the campaign, Herman Cain lambasted the Occupy Wall Street movement. During an interview with the Wall Street Journal Cain said, "Don't blame Wall Street, don't blame the big banks, if you don't have a job and you're not rich, blame yourself. It is not a person's fault because they succeeded, it is a person's fault if they failed. And so this is why I don't understand these demonstrations and what is it that they're looking for." Cains message of self reliance got lost as the oppostion used his statement to fuel protests. No matter what you think about the occupy movement they are protesting for a reason. Remember what happened when people tried to minimize and ignore the Tea Party!
Not Preparing for Debates
Gov. Rick Perry is gulity of this as he looked unprepaired during a CNBC debate. While discussing eliminating branches of goverment Perry seemed to have trouble remembering which agencies he would eliminate. He kept looking down at the podium but didn't seem to have any notes. This gaffe seemed to derail his campaign as the once white hot conservative star is fading fast. But looking and sounding a like a GQ version of GW Bush probably isn't helping either.
Over Exposure
There were easily close to a dozen debates before the Iowa primary. The Repubican candidiates ran the risk of being over exposed before the primaries even started. It stands to reason that if you put the same group of people in the same room, saying the same things, dozens of times they will probably say something stupid out of boredom. Give candidates a camera and microphone unchecked and that stupidity is on internet for years to come. Just ask Howard Dean. Give the debates a rest okay. Just because the cable news networks need programing doesn't mean you have to fill time slots for them.
Begging Others to Run
Nothing says "We have confidence in our candidates" by begging others to run. When that person says "no thanks" how are you supposed to recover from that? It's like telling your girlfriend "hold on a second while I go ask this other chic out". After Gov. Chris Christie said he would not run for president stating "my work in New Jersey is not done", elements of the GOP kept asking him to run. Really? That forces him then to say no again. The GOP shouldn't make it so easy for the writers at SNL. Make 'em work for it.
